My suggestion for long-windedness is to just come up with a few more random content things. Like fixes/new material for Dark Heresy (and related, such as the brand-new Rogue Trader). Or things like your Warlock That Doesn't Suck.
Hell, if someone wanted to cover additional armies in Dungeon Crusade I'd be delighted.

Re: I just started estrogen therapy
Congrats. I hope everything goes well. Do you live in the US? I don't know much about the specifics, but I thought that there were some really long wait times associated with "approved" gender reasignment. I thought I heard that they wanted you to "live as the opposite gender" for something like a year before they'd approve anything, but that could just be what I've seen in the movies. Is any of that true?Cielingcat wrote:So for the last 3 years I've known, and my family has known, and my psychiatrists have known, that I'm transgendered. As of yesterday I finally, after a (seemingly) long wait to get my lab results back, got my doctor to prescribe me the full regiment of hormone replacement therapy.
That's too bad about the family. I have a brother who's gay, and our family has been very supportive of him. I'm not sure how much the older generation knows, but a support group is important. I'm glad to hear your friends are supportive.Cielingcat wrote:I have supportive friends, but not supportive family. Every time it's mentioned my dad calls me insane.
Time and distance can help. Not always, but it can. More often than not, parents eventually come around and accept their children's decisions in life.
That doesn't mean you'll suddenly get along, tho
Good luck! And make sure you keep hydrated! Spiro can do a doozy when used as an anti-androgen.

Sex reassignment surgery has a very long wait time attached to it, as far as I know. Hormone replacement therapy requires a minimum of 3 months with an experienced psychologist and a letter recommending that you begin treatment.RobbyPants wrote: Congrats. I hope everything goes well. There is no 'wait time' aside from scheduling and standards of care in the US. There are no longer gender reassignment clinics or such gateways.
Look up the Harry Benjamin Standards of Care for the ethical treatment of transsexual patients; it recommends therapeutical times as a gauge of desire. Basically, if the desire does not fade over time, one can be more and more certain that the patient will not be later regretting the decisions to progress.
Current therapies indicate that there are many patients who will choose to settle at different points along the 'path' that a transsexual takes to gender reassignment. So having periods of adjustment is key to successful (creates greatest happiness/least suffering) treatment. Note, however, that transsexualism is actually a medical condition which is diagnosed by psychology rather than a medical treatment of a psychological condition.

PS, 'gender' usu. means outward or social display; in this case it refers to physical sex, as the two are often conflated. This being one of the many cases which shows they are not the same.

I am always filled with trepidation whenever anyone wants to do something extreme for cosmetic purposes. If it makes you happy, you should probably do it. But beware: women and men are both just people. The other end of the transformation isn't really a whole new life, it's pretty much the same life you always had. A lot of people get pretty painfully disillusioned after that.
Yes, modern technology can give you boobs, but no boobs don't give you any super powers. Like any kind of extreme body modification, the idea is often bigger than the reality. Even The Human Lizard or Enigma are really just people. While they have pushed themselves into the uncanny valley and successfully elicited horror from a lot of people, they are still just humans.
I hope it's enough for you.

While people who are into purely cosmetic body modifications realize they'll stand apart from the crowd as part of the package deal (and so they do), people seeking gender reassignment usually want to fit in. And the problem is not life as the other sex not being glamorous enough but the risk that it might not be possible at all. Taking such a risk requires courage and determination. That's why I admire Cat.
This is unfortunately self-fulfilling and currently untrue. People don't live in a vacuum, and as long as there is prejudice, there will be difference. Certain jobs are considered to be too good for women, there are places where rape of women is a-okay. On the other hand, (Russian) divorce courts almost always award the right to care for the children to the mother, because "children need mothers more than fathers". So while any sane person would want Frank to be right, legal practice says otherwise.FrankTrollman wrote:But beware: women and men are both just people.

Yeah... the "final moment" when something changes, is often "just an other day".
I hope that you feel some peace in this path, and remember, while Frank may be a complete bastard at times, he isn't an asshole that just shits on things "just 'cause". You can seriously take as much time a you want before doing gender re-assignment surgery, and you'll still be able to do it later, if you delay it now.
Also... Enigma is sort of cool, all jigsaw and stuff. He actually has prett consistent patterns, and his body looks like a jigsaw puzzle.
The Human Lizard.... is kind of lame.
My instructors would seriously berate us for "not doing a good enough job" if we made a character that looks like him.
His "scales" are well.... badly done. He looks like a guy with a chain-link-fence, and green paint drawn on his face. The sharpened teeth is ok, but not crazy surreal, I mean, lots of humans have sharpened their teeth. He tounge-splitting is sort of weak, he just looks like a guy with a damaged tongue because that's what he has. He doesn't have a "forked" or "lizard" tongue; he's got a fat, chubby, pink, human tongue, that someone cut into a bit near the middle.
Cat-man is seriosly more cat-like, than Lizard-man is lizard-like. Lizard-man is some dude who wants to be an attention whore (I mean, please, tattooing "FREAK" on your fucking chest? That just screams "call for attention"). That's fine, but he's no fucking lizard at all. Just some guy with green tats. Cat-man has ... ok, Cat-man is pretty freaking crazy, and he's pretty ugly (even without the mods, he's not a really good looking person, and doesn't dress well either, which doesn't help), but at least he looks like a cat.

So by now I've been full time for like, a month or so. I can't even remember. I was right about most things and wrong about some of them; my life is definitely better, it's definitely right now, but I still have a whole host of issues I need to work through.
But my life is better, and it's worth the occasional doctor's visit and a few prescriptions.

It's been a month since you've seen me here since I have trouble finding anything to say in any threads. Mostly because I'm not a very verbose person; I can't write very much because I can never think of very much to write.
I still check this site every day, multiple times per day, because I love it here. I just feel like there's nothing I can really contribute.

I'm glad it's going well. And I look forward to whatever gem you might spit out in future. I still love the Warlock That Doesn't Suck (granted, the reason being the amount of rage it caused on the WotC boards).
